3 Updates Your Home Needs Every 10 Years

While owning a home is one of the most rewarding investments of your life, it doesn’t come without tradeoffs. The unfortunate part of owning a home is the upkeep necessary to keep it at tip top shape. As the age of our homes grow, so does the need to invest in items to inject more life into them.

While there are a million different things you could invest in after 10 years, I’ve narrowed it down to three updates that will keep your home functioning well.

Water Heater

While this isn’t the most exciting thing to replace, it definitely falls under the “necessary” category. Without it, say goodbye to those warm, relaxing showers every morning. You will find that most water heaters have an average life expectancy of around 10 years. In other words, keep track of it’s age and replace it so you avoid the risk of leaks or failure.

Carpet

Unlike the water heater, carpet directly impacts the look and feel of your home. Most carpets have a life expectancy of 10 years – but you will be able to tell if it needs replaced by doing a check up. Check for rips, stains, tears, and odors. Then, use your best judgment. Remember, you don’t have to invest in the entire house all at once – take it slow if you need to!

Garbage Disposal

This item definitely falls the lowest on “attractiveness”, but is one that will make a big difference in your life. Over the years, your garbage disposal’s blades will dull from all of the use. Naturally, it will quit being as effective as it was when you first got it. As a result, you’ll want to swap this out about every 10 years to ensure a high-functioning disposal.

While these three updates aren’t the most exciting, they will definitely bring peace of mind to you and your family. In my opinion, any update that does that is an investment well made. What do you think?
